Ganesh Chaturthi, also known as Vinayaka Chaturthi, is one of the most celebrated Hindu festivals in India. It marks the birth of Lord Ganesha, the beloved son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, who is worshipped as the remover of obstacles, the god of wisdom, knowledge, and prosperity.
This year, Ganesh Chaturthi 2025 will be celebrated with great devotion and enthusiasm by millions of devotees across India and around the world.
Ganesh Chaturthi is not just a religious festival—it is a celebration of faith, culture, and togetherness. Lord Ganesha is invoked at the beginning of every auspicious work, business, or venture to ensure success and remove hurdles.
The festival usually lasts for 10 days, starting on the Chaturthi tithi (fourth day of the waxing moon in Bhadrapada month) and ending with the grand Ganesh Visarjan, when the idol of Lord Ganesha is immersed in water with chants of “Ganpati Bappa Morya, Pudhchya Varshi Lavkar Ya!”
Ganesh Sthapana (Installation of the Idol) – Devotees bring home beautifully crafted idols of Lord Ganesha and place them on decorated pandals.
Daily Pooja & Aarti – Offerings of flowers, modaks (Lord Ganesha’s favorite sweet), fruits, and durva grass are made along with recitations of Ganesh mantras.
Ganesh Atharvashirsha Path & Ganapati Stotra – Devotees chant these sacred texts daily to invoke the blessings of Lord Ganesha.
Visarjan – On the last day, the idol is taken out in a grand procession and immersed in rivers, lakes, or sea, symbolizing the cycle of creation and dissolution.
Lord Ganesha is highly revered in Hindu scriptures including the Ganesh Purana, Mudgala Purana, and references in the Rigveda. He is worshipped as Vighnaharta (remover of obstacles) and Buddhidayaka (giver of wisdom).
